Classic Necky Skeg INFO

The classic Necky skegs of the 1990s are discontinued, no more are available. They mounted only onto the flat stern of the kayak hull. The skeg blade was typically 11 to 14 inches long by 3 inches wide. The thickness is unknown, but assumed to be 1/4 inch. The four mounting bracket screw holes were 1.5 inches side to side by 1.75 inches top to bottom. A pull rope and cleat were part of the system. I call this series of Necky skegs the First Generation. The diagram to the right will shed some light on operation of it.

If you need to replace just the classic Necky skeg blade, you might purchase Aluminum Plate Stock and cut your blade from it. The remains of the old blade could be used as sample to create a paper template to be transferred to the Plate Stock. Fabrication of the side pieces could be made of Aluminum Angle Bar Stock.

The 2nd Generation Necky Elaho Skeg Blade was a stainless steel skeg blade found on the plastic Necky Elaho kayak (circa 2002). This 2nd generation skeg blade may have fit other Necky brand kayaks built around 2002. This blade was not universal. Blade was 26.25 inches long, 3.1 inches wide, 1/8 inch thick.
