The Wilderness Systems Airpro Seat system was introduced in 2013, replacing the Phase 3 seat. The original AirPro color was a dark charcoal with lighter shade of trim (see photo to the right). Some years later the color was changed to a lighter shade with orange trim circa 2015 (see photo above).

Important! Wilderness Systems does not sell complete seats. This includes AirPro and Phase 3 seats as well as some of the underlying structural seat parts such as the seat bottom pan.

It is not practical, nor would it be easy, to upgrade a Phase 3 seat to AirPro.

AirPro seats are found in Wilderness Systems sit-in-side kayaks such as the Pungo and Tsunami, sit-on-top kayaks such as the Tarpon and Ride as well the Commander.

The majority of sit-in-side AirPro seats are all the same, but expect slightly different strap systems and seat pans. The Tsunami typically is outfitted with the Day Touring back support and can be retrofitted with a sea kayak style back band. In other words it can take both a back band or a recreational style back support. The Tempest is outfitted with the lower half the AirPro seat and a sea kayak style back band for back support. The Tempest cannot be retrofitted with a Day Touring back support.

The majority of sit-on-top AirPro seats are all the same, but expect slightly different strap systems and the seat pan(s) is very different than one found in a sit-in-side kayak. Kayaks such as the Ride and Commander were outfitted with a seat system called Freedom Elite, that features AirPro parts.

It is best to restore AirPro and Freedom Elite seats with original AirPro parts. Metal frame seats cannot be applied to kayaks that were not originally outfitted with such. A standard sit-on-top seat can not be easily used to retrofit these proprietary seat systems. While it is possible to use a standard sit-on-top it will requires a signifigant custom installation.

The most commonly needed parts are the AirPro Seat Bottom Cushion, the Seat Back Cover plus the spring and plunger. The Ride and Commander both take a Large Seat Back Cover while all the other models, sit-in and sit-on, take the Small Seat Back Cover. Use this link to see multiple pages of AirPro Seat Parts.

Seat back straps are more likely to fail than leg lifter straps. Seat back Hight adjustment Straps are the least likely to fail. Straps on sit-on-top kayaks are more likely to fail than those in sit-in-side kayaks. There are some underlying seat structural parts that are available, but the most crucial part, the seat pan, aka seat bottom structure, is just not a part that can be purchased. As such the only way to get this part would be from a kayak that is no longer fit for use. PAPS
